Concreto Diamond

The CONCRETO Diamond is a special event held annually during the summer as part of the CONCRETO Masterpiece. Organized by the CONCRETO Academy, it serves as an incubator for fostering and promoting critical discussions on the rehabilitation and preservation of concrete architecture. This one-day event features workshops on key topics and highlights innovative products and technologies in the field.

During this year’s CONCRETO Masterpiece in Ivrea, we hosted Rohit Jigyasu from ICCROM International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) at a practical workshop – Building Resilience: Assessing and Managing Risks in Heritage Sites.

As the student cohort spent time working in such an iconic place as the UNESCO Industrial Heritage site of Ivrea, we challenged them to reflect on how the changes that are affecting our climate will impact our built heritage: how does climate change affect our heritage structure, in particular, our concrete heritage?
During the one-day workshop, students of CONCRETO Academy were assigned a case study to work on within the Ivrea site and were asked to complete an analysis of vulnerabilities and risks of the site, and on how to prioritize risks based on their potential impact and likelihood.
By the end of this workshop, participants gained valuable insights and skills to help safeguard our built environment and to better prevent and mitigate the impact of increasingly frequent “human-made disasters” that are affecting our lives. Much was learnt!
Rohit Jigyasu is a conservation architect and risk management professional from India, currently working at ICCROM in Rome as Project Manager on Urban Heritage, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management.

The CONCRETO Academy was honoured to have his presence.
