CONCRETO Steppingstone

First Learning activity for our CONCRETO Students, the CONCRETO STEPPINGSTONE!

We are thrilled to embark on this concrete journey with our first-year students.  Our inaugural teaching activity is the CONCRETO STEPPINGSTONE and we couldn’t be more excited to kickstart this new adventure in the world of concrete!

Program Highlights:

Date: April 17 – April 19, 2024

Day 1: Greetings and Project Introduction by the CONCRETO Scientific Director Irene Matteini, then History of Concrete Technology, Exploration of Pier Luigi Nervi’s Architectural Legacy, Engaging Sessions featuring Case Studies “Learning from the Field” presented by experts from Italy, Spain, Turkey, Netherlands, UK, USA, and more!

Day 2: Introduction to the Conservation of Existing Concrete Structures, TU Delft Aula Conservation Management Plan, Rehabilitation Projects: ‘Colonia Dux’ in Cagliari, Sardinia; METU Academic Cafeteria; Mercado de Pola de Siero; Hipódromo de la Zarzuela

Day 3: Restoration Projects: Tomba Brion, National Theatre in London, Jackson Lake Lodge in Wyoming, Rehabilitation and Enlargement of the Rande Viaduct in Vigo, Spain; Bursa Uluabat Pump Station Project, Turkey; Real-time Monitoring of Reinforced Concrete Bridges, Evaluation of Previous Interventions: Ligabues’ Warehouse in Venice; METU Faculty of Architecture Building Structural Monitoring; HBIM for Concrete – Lessons from Turkey

Our CONCRETO Apprentices from Italy, Spain, and Turkey will now be able to process these exciting learning inputs and consolidate the knowledge they have acquired this week!

But wait, the journey doesn’t end here!  Get ready for the next step in the CONCRETO JOURNEY: CONCRETO MASTER YOUR SKILLS, coming next June in Lecco, Italy, at the stunning campus of Politecnico di Milano.
